Polishing Acrylic Edges

When acrylic is mechanically cut, it’s often left with rough edges. For applications where edges are not exposed, this is okay; however, for a finer, finished look to the sheet’s border, it’s possible to use a variety of polishing or beveling techniques.

Saw Cut Edge

Saw Cut

A saw cut edge is standard for cut acrylic/plexiglass. Typically free of chips, it does not require polishing if the edge will be joined or otherwise engaged. Saw cutting results in a matte finished edge.

Machine Polished Edge

Diamond Polishing & Buffing

Diamond polishing adds a shiny luster to the edges of acrylic. This process consists of diamonds rotating at high speed, over the surface of the material. Diamond polishing goes together with a buffing process. Buffing is done after the polishing process has been completed, giving the edges an even higher quality, polished finish. *Please note that if you choose to polish your acrylic sheet, this is our standard polishing method.

Hand Polished Edge

Hand Polished

For any products that have 3 dimensions beyond those that lend themselves to diamond or flame polishing. Acme Plastics have these products hand polished and buffed to an exquisite, museum quality edge finish.

*Please note that laser cut acrylic is inherently polished and and doesn’t require further edge finishing.

Beveling and Rounding Acrylic

Top & Bottom Round Bevel

These acrylic sheets are rounded on the top and bottom surface. Also described as a "round over" of the top and bottom edges, this type of bevel is commonly used for desks and countertops.

Top Round Bevel
These acrylic sheets are rounded on one surface only, with the bottom being flat. This type of beveling is commonly used on tables, or can be purposed into cabinet doors.

45 degree acrylic edge
45° Bevel
This type of acrylic sheet has a 45-degree angle cut on one surface only, giving it an aesthetically pleasing, angular effect. The angular nature of this bevel makes it easier to join together with a similarly angled piece.
