What is Nylon plastic?

Nylon is a generic name for a group of synthetic polymers developed by DuPont in 1935. It was the first commercially successful synthetic thermoplastic first used in nylon-bristled tootbrushes. Nylon's physcial properties include exceptionally strength as well as abrasion and chemical resistance. It has a high melting temperature, making it an ideal substitute for metals in high temperature applications. Nylon is commonly used for automotive parts, machine screws, brushings & gears, and electrical connectors.

What are the different types of nylon?

There are many types of Nylons, typically described by numbers like 6, 6/6, etc. These numbers refer to the number of methyl groups on each side of the nitrogen atoms in their molecular structures. Nylon plastic sheets, rods, and tubes are typically made from Nylon 6 and Nylon 6/6.
